How to Stop Makeup Wastage

So I recently finished my bottle of Rimmel London BB Cream or so I thought. The packaging is such that it is hard to get out of the last scraps of product.

As  I am a broke student I decided to cut the top off and get the rest of the product however to my shock there was a lot more than I thought there was.Wastage 1

I started to depot the product and to my surprise there was about 10 ml of product in the pot and the BB cream itself was only 30ml so I could have easily thrown away a third of the product.

It really bugs me when companies use pots and containers like this as it is always such a hassle to get every last part of it out. I much prefer  pot containers than anything else, yes it is hard and a little messy to put liquids in to those sort of containers but if it means not wasting any product then that is always good.

So this is an easy way of de-potting your products.

You need:

A clean container  I get my travel size pots from either Primark or Superdrug.

A small spatula or you could use a spoon

And a pair of scissors

Wastage 2First off clean the container. I really do mean clean make sure it has been washed with hot soapy water or you may contaminate the product.

The snip of the very top of the product but leave the lid on. Start by scooping out the top layer and transferring it to the pot.

Once the top section is clean snip slightly further down and clean out that and continue down to the bottom.

You will be so surprised how much product is really left in the bottom. I wish there was a simple way to depot product out of glass jars, if you do know please tell me.

Also this is good if you are travelling and don’t want to take a big pot with you when you go away.

I know this is such a simple thing to do but I feel that not a lot of people, or cosmetic companies, appreciate how much product is wasted through something so simple as a container design.

Would You Rather?

So it is Sunday and I am a little bored so let’s play a game of would you rather… makeup and beauty edition.

1. Would you rather lose all of your mascaras, eyeliners, lipsticks, and lip glosses or lose all of your palettes and eye shadows?

I would freak out if I lost all my palettes and eye shadows as that is the thing that I probably have the most of and have spend the most money on. I tend to wear the same eyeliners and mascaras all the time and also I don’t really have loads of lipsticks and lip glosses so it wouldn’t be that hard for me to let go of them. My eye shadow palettes I love too much to ever part with them.

2. Would you rather chop all of your hair off or never be able to cut it again?

This question depends on how far I am cutting off, if we are talking no hair at all then hell no but if we are saying around pixie cut then possibly. I don’t think I could cope forever with Rapunzel hair it would stress me out too much.

3. Would you rather have a coral cheek or a pink cheek?

Pink cheeks. I don’t suit corals at all. I have really pale skin so anything with an orange tinge makes me look unwell. Pink all the way!

4. If you had £1000 to spend, would you rather buy clothes or makeup?

I would normally say makeup but at the moment I am looking to mature my wardrobe and have it more suitable for work and  adult life so £1,000 would be amazing to go towards that.

5. Would you rather apply lipstick as eyeliner, or eyeliner as lipstick?

Eyeliner as lipstick. And for fancy dress if I need a dark lip like a black or a dark brown I would do that. And lipstick as eyeliner would make you look like you lost a fight.

6. Would you rather only shop at high-end or high-street?

I honestly would rather just shop at the high-street. High-street make up is highly under rated especially brands like Sleek and Makeup Revolution. You can find some great products on the high-street also I wouldn’t be totally broke.

7. Would you rather only use one eyeshadow colour or one lip colour for the rest of your life?

If it was a rich red colour then I could probably live with only one lip colour. Most days I don’t even wear lip products so I wouldn’t really notice it unless I was doing something special and that colour didn’t match my outfit.

8. Would you rather wear winter clothes in summer or summer clothes in winter?

Summer clothes in winter; I don’t feel the cold, I’m like Elsa that way, and I will wear similar things in winter as summer. The only real difference between the two seasons for me is winter has more black and summer has more white. Style and clothing type remain the same.

9. Would you rather have dark nails or bright nails all year round?

Bright nails as dark nails in summer looks strange.

10. Would you rather give up your favourite lip colour or favourite eye product?

I would give up my favorite eye product that is the NYX jumbo eye shadow pencil in ‘Milk’ because the alternative of giving up my favorite lip product, Boujois rouge velvet in ’02’, I can’t live with. So bye bye ‘Milk’ eye pencil.

11. Would you rather only be able to wear your hair in a ponytail or messy bun?

Easy, messy bun as it works for both formal and casual occasions.

12. Would you rather never be able to paint your nails again or never use lipgloss?

Again easy, never use lipgloss as lipglosses I don’t really like  to wear on a daily basis and I love having my nails done all the time.

13. Would you rather shave your eyebrows and have none at all or sharpie them in everyday?

Shave my eyebrows. I hate the Scouse brow too much and it really doesn’t suit me. Also I’m not an expert in Sharpie but I am sure they don’t have one that will be a good match for my hair colour.

14. Would you rather live without makeup or nail polish?

World without nail polish. I could live without nail polish but I can’t live without make up at all. Hell, I wouldn’t be sitting here typing this if it wasn’t for makeup so I guess I will always want to be in a world with makeup.

Pretty Pastel Pinks and Purple

So it was rainy and grey this morning so I decided to go a little crazy with colour and make a great pastel, matte pink and purple look.
All colours use the 120 BH cosmetics 1st edition palette. I would tell you the exact colours but I was just playing around and mixing colours so I can’t really remember.

Review: Bourjois Velvet: Rouge Edition

I love a red lip. The classic red is classic and always fashionable. I love wearing red for day or night.

However there is a problem with red lipstick, well all lipstick in general, is it not staying put throughout the day so I am on a never ending quest to find a long lasting lipstick. I have tried out stains, tints and an assortment of lipsticks but nothing ever got quite as close as the Bourjois Velvet.

02 Frambourjois

I got the shade 02 Frambourjois few months ago (I also did a first impressions/ road test that you can see on my YouTube channel) and I fell in love with it. I also have the shade 07 Nude-ish that I got a few weeks ago.

07 Nude-ish
07 Nude-ish

Lets start with application, you apply with an angled brush that looks like a lip gloss brush. This is a great way to apply as the way the brush is made makes it very easy but also precise to apply. Also this is a tiny point but the amount that comes out with the brush is the perfect amount for the whole lips.

So I normally apply two coats but I will take at least ten minutes between applications as I find this gives the longest lasting colour. I would recommend no eating or drinking for about half an hour after application as this gives it time to set.

The colour will look glossy when it is applied but will turn matte and set after half an hour. Once it is fully matte then you can eat or drink and it will last around seven hours without looking any different to when you first apply it.

07 Nude-ish

The matte finish isn’t drying on your lips and actually it keeps you lips hydrated long after you apply it. I suffer from really dry lips but strangely this doesn’t dry them out at all. It is very surprising as most matte formulas that I have tried tend to dry your lips out a lot but this is so hydrating.

I would recommend only using this on your lips because it does react with other products and causes it to loose it’s long lasting qualities. So I wouldn’t apply lip stick, gloss or a balm over the top.

In terms of value for money I think that it is a great investment as you really don;’t need to use a lot and there is no need to re-apply during the day and that is amazing.

So all in all I would recommend this product as it lasts all day and is matte but also hydrating. I would defiantly give it a go.

A few little changes…

So this blog I will admit I haven’t really been paying attention to. It is mainly about publicising and showing off HQ photos from my videos.

However after much thought I have decided to change this and make this blog have a lot more content so what is going to change:

  1. More product reviews. I love reading reviews so I will try to review as many different products as I can.
  2. Product favorites and top 5s as I find that it is a great way to know some of the best products around in certain categories.
  3. More make up looks. I normally I just post looks that I have done tutorials about but I am going to make a better effort to show some other make up looks. Also if certain looks are very popular I will make videos of them. So basically face of the days.
  4. More lifestyle pieces such as DIY decor ideas and food recipes. I want to continue to branch out from just beauty and fashion so there maybe a few recipes and lifestyle pieces will making an appearance in the next few week.
  5. Also I love makeup tips so I will also be posting a few of my favorite tips and tricks.

So that is all the changes; hope that is all okay with everyone. so the basic message is that this blog will have a lot more content in it and a better range of posts.

My YouTube channel will also have more lifestyle pieces and more content as well. You can find and subscribe to my channel at:

Review: Barry M Silk Nail Varnish

I am very traditional when it comes to nail varnish. I like my glossy varnishes and normal colours. I never have really bought in to glitter nails or nail art. I love a glossy nail varnish and I think that nothing is better however

Truffel, Heather and Pearl   I think that the Barry M Silk nail varnishes might have converted me out of my dull nail varnish rut.

The first out of the three that I picked up was the purple. I wanted a nice pale purple colour that I could wear all year round. I actually didn’t research this before I buy it. Nail varnishes can be a bit hit and miss and I tend to stick with the brands that I love. So when I got home I had no idea about the texture of the nail varnish.

The vanish is not matte but it is not a gloss. It is an odd thing in the middle of the two; it is what it says a silk look. The best way to describe it is like a frost or a satin eye shadow; not matt but not glittery.

The shades are really wearable. The white I love to wear as a simple shade for every day or a default nail when I

can’t match the varnish to an outfit. The brown shade looks like a nude however it doesn’t suck all the colour out of your hands like most nudes do. The purple is great for that extra pop of colour.

One thing I love to do with these is paint my nails all one colour, either the brown or the white, and make my ring fingers purple as something more interesting.

The dry time is incredible and dries in a matter of minutes with no worry about smudging straight after. I tend to apply two coats however I have, when I was in a rush, only applied one and still the colour pay off is great.

I would say that the varnish lasts for about a week; providing that you do no heavy manual labour. It is quite chip resistant; the only place I find that it wears off is the very tips of my nails but that would be after a good five to six days.

There are about 10 shades in the range. Mainly pastel colours however they have brought out some more darker shades for the winter. I bought these from Superdrug and they were £3.99 and I would say it is very good value for money as it does last a long time also it is a decent amount of product you are paying for.

I would highly recommend this product especially if you want a change from the classic glossy nail and aren’t ready for the full plunge in to matte shades.
