I have decided to start up a mailing list. It feels like the right direction to go in. I know that a lot of people here already receive email updates from me about this blog and the posts, which now always includes my YouTube videos.
However, I like the format to give small updates in what I am doing and a weekly mailing list feels right to me. As a lot of my channels only give you a bit of information and some is completely out of context, for example, my Instagram feed that is snapshots but not complete stories.
Obviously, there will be a little bit of repetition if you look at all my content over all the different channels but I will be giving updates to a few new projects that I am working on in the next few months. One, I hinted at in Vlogmas and the other is a massive project that I am just starting to plan out.
Both of these things I will talk about in the first newsletter so subscribe so you can hear about that.
As my different things on the Internet are starting to expand I need this space to keep up with everything. It also will give me a sense of achievement every week as I will have the weekly posts said in one place.
It is the 30th November meaning that tomorrow is the start of Vlogmas. I was going to do this last year but between my Master’s and a five-day power cut and flooding I would have failed. So this year I am feeling a lot more optimistic.
So for me Vlogmas will be a little different mainly because it will centre around the Bible Society’s Advent Challenge. Where each day they email a few challenges to pick and to do something good for someone else.
I love the different way that people do Vlogmas as we have all been given this project that we all do a little differently depending on your own style and channel. So focus more about their personal life or about their channel’s content be it books or beauty.
So this year I am going to focus on charity and doing good rather than the commercial and capitalistic side. Saying that I am currently being a Christmas Temp in a shop and yes, I understand what irony is.
You too can sign up for the Advent Challenge on the Bible Society website to receive the emails about the daily challenges. I think that even if you are not a Christan that you should consider doing this as it will be a great way for you to send some Christmas spirit this year.
So that is what Vlogmas is going to be full of, parts of my daily life with charity and doing good in the world each day.
This will also help me get out of my own head a bit because I won’t be focusing on myself so much as I have something to distract me.
Also warning for those who are going to follow this because I am going to film, edit and upload on the same day. Not film one day and then edit and upload the next because I wanted each day to have the challenge so I start December 1st.
But I a prepared – I even made the thumbnail and title card:
Last week I decided to do a mini-series of videos called “This week” where each day I would daily vlog. It would not be in the traditional way where you would follow me around and I would be very chatty but it would just be my life without all the filters.
Going through the entire week there is a common theme: thoughtfulness and reality.
I was going to take clips of me throughout the day sometimes just a simple clip of what I am doing to a little clip of some raw thoughts.
There is something about this project that was so different to any other type of vlog because I wasn’t trying to be entertaining. I was documenting my life. I gave raw emotions and what I was really thinking and feeling. For the record, this was not made for the viewer buompletely t cfor me. I wasn’t having the best of weeks and I decided no matter what the week was going to be like I was going to make these videos.
For the record, this was not made for the viewer but for myself. I wasn’t having the best of weeks and I decided no matter what the week was going to be like I was going to make these videos.
The video were between two and five minutes long and that is a very small space of time in comparison to all the minutes of the day. This was not my full day but a small snapshot.
I mentioned before my 100-day challenge and this was part of it because I had to be so conscious of day because I had to film it.
I was very upset and depressed this week and I think that it came out on the video but my purpose was not to have any sympathy but as a way for me to get to grips with each day as it comes.
We only post what we want on social media and we miss out the hard bits, which is stupid because it is the hard bits that make us human. Yet we celebrate our victories and achievement and never talk about the bad days and when we ever do it is seen as attention seeking.
Don’t think that sad or negative emotions are wrong and don’t ever feel like you should or shouldn’t feel something.
This was my reality last week – edited, yes, but unscripted and raw.
So September was a bit of an odd month but it did give me a good opportunity to work on my photography skills around products and makeup sets – mainly because there was not much else going on in my life!
Mainly food, coffee, and beauty this month – but those are my three favourite things!
